Overseas Missionary Training School to open in South Santo
By Harrison Selmen
Vanuatu will be for the first time to have an overseas missionary training and technical school.
Tyrannus Mission Center (TMC) has been incorporated under the Charitable Association Acts
of Republic of Vanuatu in April 2011, located at Nakere Village South Santo. TMC will open its
School doors next year on March 2013. The main motto and aim of the missionary training and
technical school is to train people to become overseas missionary to be able to ¡°Go and make
disciples of all nations¡±. The training will help NI-Vans to go on overseas missionary to some
of the unreached tribes in south pacific and other remote world. Countries to be explored would
be Solomon Islands, Fiji, PNG and Indonesia, and other countries.
The name of the School is ¡°Tyrannus Mission Center¡± name in line with Acts chapter 19 verses
10. The school does not only offer overseas missionary trainings but also a wide sort of computer,
carpentry and small business management courses. The idea of including the additional courses
is to make sure everybody who passes through this college have a wide understanding in order
to be well equipped and can survive in the unreached tribes in overseas countries. However,
others can develop their skills and find jobs. The overseas missionary training teaches people
about the complex concepts involved in tribal church planting, such as understanding gospel
and culture.
The building in South Santo is now almost complete and still need some staff houses and some
facilities to be built before the opening next year on March. The principal for the Tyrannus Mission
Center is Pastor Peter Bong from Korea. Ps. Peter has several qualifications and experiences in
mission fields and business. He has three master degrees in Theological Studies, in Missiology,
and in Business Management. He was well known in Santo after so many years teaching in Talua
Ministry Training Center and in Pacific Mission Bible College ( PMBC ) in Santo. He was also
involved in bush mission in Vanuatu and planted 7 churches
in the unreached tribes in the bush.
Daily Post spoke to the Principal for Tyrannus Mission Center, Pastor Peter Bong about his intention
to build such school in Vanuatu. He said he arrived in Vanuatu back in 2005 to teach the students
the mission works in TMTC. At the time he urged many leaders of churches that they should send
overseas missionary so that in return God might bless Vanuatu. Ps. Peter made an example of his
country Korea. He said Korea around 40 years back was very poor country, poorer than Vanuatu
after their civil war in 1950s. He said the reason why today Korea became one of the ten world¡¯s
best richest countries because God poured the blessings to Korea when the Korean Churches
started to send overseas missionaries to all over the world. He said the changes began to happen
from all the area of life. The churches grew up very fast and sent more overseas missionaries.
The Korean economy developed miraculously from that time. Korea is now the second largest
missionary-sending country, next to the United States.
Thus, Ps. Peter said he wants to start the School to be able to send Ni-Van overseas missionaries.
He wants Vanuatu to be a missionary-sending country so that in return God might bless Vanuatu.
So he sincerely ask all churches to agree with the purpose of the School and to recommend good
missionary candidates and students to the School in March next year. Ps. Peter said he needs the
cooperation and prayer of every church around Vanuatu because the School is for all denominations.
